Hello Fellow Colonists!
I would like you to post your position on the war as if you are a colonists in 1775. Take into consideration Life Meeker's point of view and Sam Meeker's point of view. Whom do you agree with based on the ideas they have presented in the novel thus far? Please give examples/evidence of why you agree with that person. Your comment should be 3-4 sentences in length.
I think that I would agree with Sam's point of view because everyone should get to have the right of freedom, but then again Life has a good point of view also because their king should deserve the respect and loyalty of his citizens. Sam has a point by saying that people should fight for their freedom but Life also has a point in saying that their is no reason in fighting! So I think that I am like Tim Meeker.
ReplyDeleteI think I will probably agree with Sam because I agree that every one should be free. Besides I don't really want to change the pass and be a part of Britain. I'm glad that we are the United States of America.
ReplyDeleteI think i would be for Sam's point of veiw because if i were living as a colonist i would not want to pay taxes to someone across and ocean because we came here to the colonies in a better religion. If i came here for a right of one thing i would just want the right of freedom. I am glad i am a colonsists and i will fight for frredom.
ReplyDeleteI would be for Sam's side because I think that everyone should be able to fight for freedom if he or she wanted to. I think that Sam and Tim's father would encourage Sam to go and fight if it didn't risk his older son's life. If I was there I would choose to fight just like Sam.
ReplyDeletei would be on Sam's side because we patriots do not need to have our money sucked right out of our pockets we deserve that money because we have earned it with a lot of hard work and not just because were the leader and we want money if they want money they should earn it themselves. And we deserve the freedom that was meant to be, not war. War solves nothing at all and that is why we do not need to fight to just have freedom at last. And we should have the right to choose what ever religion we choose others don't control that is something only we control. And if it means having no leader to be free i would go with no leader instead of being trapped in a prison doing work for just a random person it doesn't matter if he/she is leader that person is still just a person.
ReplyDeleteIf I was a colonist in 1775 and I would have to choose between becoming a Loyalist with Life Meeker or a Patriot with Sam Meeker I would choose to be a Patriot with Sam Meeker. I would want to be a Patriot with Sam Meeker because I want to be free with no King telling me how to do things or be a certain way. Life Meeker at first thinks Sam is going to war and thinking about this because of the taxes. For example: Sam said "Father I am not an Englishman, I am an American, and I am going to fight to keep my country free." While Life Meeker said:"Oh God, Sam fight? Is it worth war to save a few pence in taxes?" Then Sam said:" It's not the money, it's the principle." I got this evidence from Chapter 1, page 21, paragrph 1 and a little bit of 2.
ReplyDeleteI would choose Sam's side because most people traveled here for freedom but the British came and took all of that away by over-taxing and seizing control of the colonies. I also think that the British should also stop trying to take away their free will and freedom of speech. They also just should have given them their freedom after the first massacres and they should have been able to see that some colonists really wanted their freedom and wouldn't stop until they had it just like how Betsy Read said she'd fight if she could and than she continued trying to spy at the Tavern.
ReplyDeleteIf I was a colonist in 1775 I would be on Sam's side(patriots). On page 7 Sam says that "it's worth dying to be free" and Life says in response "Free? Free to do what, Sam? Free to mock your king? Free to shoot your neighbor? To make a mess of lives of thousands of people" I believe that Sam is right in the fact of that the British messed up so they take money out of our pockets? I also believe in Sam in the other fact that they are ruled under a king. I'm ruled under one king and that is God. I believe in Sam 100%.
ReplyDeleteI would choose sam's side because sam is fighting for everyone to be free and I think that everyone should be free. People should fight for what they believe in and you would think sam's father would support sam for fighting for peoples freedom but no instead sam and his father fight, but the reason the father is angry is because its life or death and the father does not want his son to die.
ReplyDeleteI would choose sam side because he is fighting for everyone to be free. And it is worth dieing for. I dont want to be tould what to do by a king. I think that Sams father wants to be free but is to afried to talk bad about the king.I also think Sams father dose not want Sam to fight in the war because he is afried he will get killed.
ReplyDeleteI feel that everyone should have the right of freedom, so if Sam wants to fight for his independence, I feel he should be able to. I feel that it is very brave to be risking his life for independence. I also feel that he should side with the other citizens in his town and stay with who he really is, but he has the right to choose who he wants to side with. I think that it would be bad if Tim doesn't tell his father where Sam is because I feel that a father would be very worried and concerned to want to know where his son is and how he is doing. I feel that I side with Sam Meeker because I feel that he is the only one who is trying put an end to how he is being treated. I also think that he is very brave for this.
ReplyDeleteI think Sam is right because people should have the right to be free. And if Sam wants to fight in the war he should be able to fight because it is his decision. But I dont think Sam should have stolen the Brown Bess because Tim,Susanna, and Life Meeker need the gun at home with them. And Sam should be responsible for getting his own gun to fight. And Sam is willing to die for everyones freedom, and that is why Sam is a good person.
ReplyDeleteI personally whould choose Sam side because if you dont live in Brintin you shouldnt have to follow there laws. But i think Sam should be more responsable about going to war, what I mean by this is that he shouldnt have took the brown bess. Also I think Sam should have been a man, and not run away like some dumb baby and talk to his family.
ReplyDeleteI think sam is right because people should be free. But also, Life has a good point by saying you should stick to your king and be loyal to him. So if I was a colonist back in 1775 i think i would be a Patroit.
